About us

We are a Soil Association certified Organic, small scale family farm near Newbury. The farm was established by Great Grandparents Frances and Frank in 1974.
Beef
UPDATE: Our next batch of beef boxes will be available late summer 2024. You can email us to get a place on the waiting list.
We rear organic, English Longhorn cattle for our popular box scheme which we started in 2014. As a Soil Association registered farm our animals are cared for under the highest welfare standards including their transport and slaughter as well as living conditions. They are not given routine medications, wormers or antibiotics, they are free range and have a natural diet; mainly of grass! We farm in a sustainable way with no pesticides and a traceable process of production. Organically farmed land is better for the environment and for our wildlife (including our precious bees!). For more information on why choose organic click here.
Our beef is available to buy at various times over the year - only when it is ready to go - this is sustainable farming. The meat is hung for at least 28 days (far longer than the industry standard) and tended to under the skilful eye of the butcher.
You can buy a standard 10kg box, £140 or a 5kg 'half' box, £75 (for reference, the 5kg contents fills a tray in a standard fridge freezer), the meat is vacuum packed for your convenience, labelled individually with the weight and cut in accordance with Soil Association regulations. In each box is a variety of cuts.
In the 10kg box is a selection of roasting joint(s), braising steak, diced beef, steak (rump & sirloin), minced beef, shin/flank, brisket. Often we find customers buy a 10kg box to share with family/friends.
In the 5kg box, the cuts are fairly distributed to include a similar choice.
We deliver the meat fresh allowing you to freeze it.
We price check several times a year at local butchers, farmers markets and supermarkets to make sure you’re getting the best organic beef for the best price.
Honey is available to buy alongside the boxes. £6 for an 8oz jar.
We offer free delivery within a 20 mile radius of Newbury.
The Cattle
We find our English Longhorn cattle provide the most superior meat - see what you think!
Our cows have a relaxed and stress free life and are pasture fed which contributes to the tender texture, quality and excellent flavour of the meat as well as being a kinder life for the cow.
The English Longhorn is one of the oldest British beef breeds. They are known for their intramuscular fat which creates a ‘marbling’ within the meat fat. This is responsible for the succulent and tender meat.
How to buy
To enquire about availability or to go on the waiting list for details about the next available box you can email us with ‘mailing list’ in the subject title or call us.
Honey
Our bee hives nestle in the north east corner of the farm sheltered from the wind and activity where they can forage on the abundant wildflowers in and surrounding the farm.
Celia is a registered beekeeper with the BBKA. She keeps ten hives at the farm whilst being employed to look after other hives elsewhere in the area - it's a busy job! Celia produces the honey with as little process as possible. It is unpasteurised, not heat treated and only gently filtered so it retains all of the goodness and is classed as 'raw'.
